Summer in Atlanta: Top 5 Ice Cream Shops

Summer in Atlanta: Top 5 Ice Cream Shops

It’s Summer In Atlanta which means the temperature is anywhere from hot to OMG Seriously it’s Blazing! Summer in Atlanta also means Ice cream, ice treats and anything cold to beat the heat. Personally I love a cold treat all year long thanks to pregnancy and motherhood hormones but in the summer they are extra special. If it not OMG Blazing, it’s fun to sit outside on the porch or at the ice cream shop and people watch.

One of the things I miss most about living in NYC is Mr. Softee. A city treasure! Soft serve on wheels plus a variety of icie pops. With it being 4th of July this weekend, the Bomb pops are on my mind! Seriously, why isn’t Mr. Softee here? Why? I also miss the yummy ice cream at The Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory and Van Leeuwen Gourmet Ice Cream. But the good news is the art of authentic ice cream making is not lost on Atlanta. So my family and I are on a mission to discover the best ice cream places around Atlanta this summer.

Here are my top 5 ice cream places we’ve discovered this summer in Atlanta.

Butter & Cream

This is the first ice cream shop we discovered around Atlanta. It is one of the newer ones on the list and boy is it yummy. We went for a family day to brunch at J. Christophers, book shopping at our favorite book store Little Shop of Stories and then to Butter & Cream for ice cream. I love the salted caramel and Little Z loves the summer strawberry. Oh so good.

Dolphins Water Ice

it’s not ice cream but no summer is complete without a fresh cup of icie. In NYC, we serve up Italian ice which is known as water ice in Philly. Dolphins is a transplant from Philly and it brings me joy and a sense of Brooklyn summer nostalgia.

Morelli’s Ice Cream

I love a story about quitting a job and following your dreams. That’s the backstory of the Morelli’s owner. From pharmaceutical sales to over 200 flavors of ice cream, yep Morelli’s is on my list. Due to the rain, we were stranded in the car (mom with toddler and newborn remember) when we went to Morelli’s so we will have to go back asap.

Honeysuckle Gelato

Ok, ok, it’s gelato not ice cream but you can’t skip this delightful treat. Dare I say gelato is better than ice cream! Well sometimes it is. Honeysuckle has there own shop in the works but for now we shall venture to pick some up by the pint. Stay tuned for our tasting.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream

Oh yum! Jeni’s is delicious. I can’t name a favorite flavor just yet but oh the floats are amazing. There is a Jeni’s near our favorite bookstore so more taste testing is sure to come.

Stay tuned for part two because it’s ice cream, summer is far from over, I have to scope out all the shops that sell by the pint and I have yet to taste the infamous King of Pops. I understand that’s a sin against the Atlanta ice cream faithful.

What’s your favorite ice cream treat place to visit during the summer? If you’re in Atlanta, tell me where to go next on my ice cream journey.
